Climate Learning Networks

Like ecological fire restoration, climate change is a multi-scalar and cross-jurisdictional issue that engages a wide variety of stakeholders. It also requires fundamental institutional change, although on a broader basis than fire management. We are identifying learning networks that were addressing climate change. We found some networks that focus on climate change mitigation and others that are developing adaptive strategies to respond to anticipated social and ecological change. These networks engage in a wide variety of actions, including advocating for public policy change, promoting shifts in human behavior to foster resilient communities, and developing climate action plans.
We have created a database that provides a summary of key attributes of more than 80 climate learning networks. We are developing a plan to study a few networks in greater detail, focusing on design and administration and innovation generation and diffusion. This in-depth investigation of these networks will enable us to develop guidelines, tools, and strategies for creation and management of successful climate learning networks.
